Grottoblaster
performing as retinal exploitation cooperative
Haybarn Theater, Goddard College, Plainfield VT
Pete Talbot and Ben Matchstick, before becoming a huge success with their popular maker-centric cardboard pinball machine product Pinbox 3000, used to do a lot of fun one-off projects all across central Vermont. Perhaps the most creative of all of them was Grottoblaster.
Grottoblaster was part theater production, part Peewee’s Playhouse, part manually-operated cardboard arcade contest, and part live action role playing game. The game master was a disembodied head projected onto the top of the stage. All game conflicts were resolved by freestyle rap battles, judged by the audience. All props were made out of cardboard. Ridiculous, unique, and AMAZING.
Pete asked us to provide video entertainment during the intermissions. WE OBEYED.
